Well, I am finally trying to get back on track with writing unit studies again. I am currently working on a unit on Dr. Suess and one on Pirates, which you can soon preview on Squidoo, when I get it done! These units will be 2 weeks long and I will continue to have complete lesson plans and resource lists with all of my units.

Good Morning All!

I have been thinking on things and have decided to possibly write some mini units on topics like pirates and animation. These studies would be a week or 2 long, still have daily lesson plans and resource lists. I really miss writing my units but do not have the time to write 4 to 6 week studies at the moment. If I do write these, I will be announcing them here on my blog.

So you may see more from Hip2Homeschool Unit Studies here in the future, even though I will no longer be homeschooling. In my heart, I will always be a homeschooler, even though I will be working outside the home and my children will be in school.

I also wanted to thank those of you who have written to me via email and through messages on Facebook, encouraging me and letting me know how much you have enjoyed using my unit studies. Thank you!! Easter Unit Study for Sale

Hip2Homeschool Unit Studies Update

Well, it has been a very eventful 2 weeks for me. I have had my computer die on me, taking all of my work on my units with it. Last week, my husband went into the hospital with a ruptured appendix and was there from Monday until Thursday. I am very grateful to God that my husband is still here. He had been walking around with a ruptured appendix for a day and a half! I am so thankful he went to the emergency room on Monday morning! He almost turned around and came home, which would have been a huge mistake. Anyway, things are calming down and getting back to normal. I am finally on a new computer and able to be a part of the online world again!

I had been working on my Early American History Unit right before the computer crashed and so all the work that I had done is gone. I was just about to download my work when the computer crashed. Needless to say, that will not be done anytime soon. Also, my husband has asked that I refrain from writing any more units until the ones that I have written generate more sales. So I am taking a sabbatical from writing new units until business picks up. I am chomping at the bit to write more but want to respect my husband's wishes, so that is why I am doing this. I hope that you all will stick with me through this lull time. I will continue to sell my units on CurrClick and will be revising my Japan Unit and adding it to the list of units that I have available on their site. I also just uploaded my Christmas Traditions Unit right before my computer crashed, so it is up on Currclick as well. There is a sale on my units right now, 30% off, I believe. So if anyone is interested in purchasing units, now is a good time.

If you could spread the word about my unit studies, I would greatly appreciate it. I would love to write more! I appreciate everyone's patience. I also want to welcome those of you who have recently signed up for my blog newsletter!

I will continue to give updates periodically and will definitely let you all know if and when I resume writing more unit studies. I am thinking of steering towards doing more literature units in the future, if all goes well.

Hip2Homeschool Unit Studies Newsletter

Hello Everyone! I hope that every one is having a great year of homeschooling! We are into our second month and getting ready to go into our third. It has been hard to get back to homeschooling this year after a summer break. It has just been one of those times. But we are slowly getting used to our new schedule and getting back into the swing of things. Because of our slow start, I have not had much of a chance to work on the Early American History Unit like I wanted to. I have gotten some done on it but have a ways to go. I will try to get it out as soon as I possibly can and really appreciate your patience in waiting, if you are planning to purchase the unit. I have been wanting to start it with my own kids but because of our slow start, we have not had much time for our Middle Ages mini-unit that we are doing right now. So we will be doing it at least another week or 2. I hope to start the American history one sometime in November so I will be trying to get the unit done by then.

Hi Ladies,

I am very sorry that I haven't gotten the Early American History Unit out yet but with starting a new school year, I have been having to concentrate all of my efforts on getting back into the swing of things in our homeschool, after a summer break. I am hoping to get to the unit this week. I will continue to update you all, as much as I can, on its progress. This is a unit that I am planning on doing with my own children, so I am hoping to have it ready as soon as I can. Right now, we are doing a unit on the Middle Ages but I plan to get started on the Early American History Unit by the middle of October. I will keep you posted.

Early American History Unit Update

Hi Everyone!

I am sorry that I haven't posted in a while but we just started our school year this week and the past few weeks have been very busy. I have been working on the Early American History Unit as much as I can. I still have a ways to go on it but I will try to get it out as soon as possible, at least the first installment. As fellow homeschool moms, you know how busy we can be!

Right now, I am thinking that I will sell each unit for $12 a unit. As I have said before, with doing this study using the 3 books in the series by Peter Marshall and David Manuel, it would be way too long to put it all in one unit. So I will need to do each book separately but try to keep the cost down as much as possible. I will make a final price decision as it gets closer to completion.

The next unit after the first Early American History one, will be on animation, as voted on in the last poll.

I am very excited to get going on it. It will be about a 6 week study and that is only a unit on the first book! So I believe that I am making a wise choice by doing this unit as three instead of one. I haven't decided on a price yet but will announce it as I get closer to having it done. Well, the Prince Caspian Literature Unit is finally finished and now on CurrClick for sale. I would normally charge $17.50 for a unit that size but I am selling it on CurrClick for $15.

Thank you all so much for your patience, if you have been waiting for this unit to come out. I will start on the first unit in my Early American History series of units soon. The first one will be from the time of Christopher Columbus to the American Revolution, using the book, The Light and The Glory, as the unit spine. I have been adding in my links and book titles into my Prince Caspian Unit and am done with that part of it. I still have to format and check to make sure everything is in order. Then I will be able to put it up for sale. I am hoping by Monday afternoon I will have it up on the CurrClick website. I was hoping to have the unit done by yesterday or before but with life, there are always detours and this week there were a few. I really appreciate the patience of those of you who have been waiting for the study to come out. I will have it for sale as soon as possible.

I have also been thinking that maybe I will get to work on the Early American History Unit series that I will be doing, instead of the Ancient Egypt one. So my question would be to you all. Would you rather me work on the Ancient Egypt Unit or the Early American History Unit first? Is there any interest in one on Ancient Egypt? Hip2Homeschool Unit Studies Update

Greetings Ladies,

I am working hard on the Prince Caspian Unit and plan to be done with it by the end of the week, if not sooner. After I am done, I will get to work on the Ancient Egypt Unit, followed by the first installment of my Early American History Unit. I am going to have to do it in 3 parts because I am using the series of books by Peter Marshall and David Manuel as the unit spine. One book will be about a 4 to 6 week unit so it really needs to be broken up into 3 separate units. I haven't decided whether to do them consecutively or break them up in between other units of study. If you have a preference, please leave a comment below this entry.

I just added another poll on my blog asking whether or not anyone is interested in a Mozart Unit Study. I mentioned in my last update a couple of weeks ago that I would be doing this in the near future. So please go and vote so that I can see if there really is an interest in a series of units (starting with Mozart) on the great composers.

I will post as soon as I am done with the Prince Caspian Unit and it is ready for sale. It will be posted on my website, as well as on the CurrClick website.

Poll Ended - Results & What My PLans Are For Future Units

Hi Ladies,

Well the poll has officially ended and here are the results:

The "winner" is Early American History. So that is the first unit that I will be doing after completing the units on Prince Caspian and Ancient Egypt. In second place was Animation, so that will be the one that I will be doing following the Early American History one. After that, Pirates was the next one according to the number of votes. So that will be following Animation. Monet got one vote so that will be after Pirates. Even though Mozart had no votes, I may do that after the Monet one. I will put a poll on the blog in a couple of weeks to see how much of an interest there is in a unit on him. If there isn't a real interest in that one, I may do one on Beethoven. We'll see.

Hip2Homeschool Unit Studies Update

Well, just like always, things take longer than you think they are going to. I am still revamping my units for a special reason, like I said in my last newsletter, but I am on my last one. Then I will get back to my Prince Caspian Unit that I had been working on. Sorry for the delay, for those of you who have been waiting for it. I will get it out as soon as I possibly can.

I also wanted to announce that I have put together another Squidoo page, this one on our Early American History Unit that we will be doing this coming school year. It doesn't have the daily lesson plans but lists books that we will use, websites, and activities/assignments that we will do. If you are interested in checking it out, here is the link:

For this unit, we will be using the book, The Light and the Glory, as our spine. I will be doing unit studies on the other books in the series as well, but sell them as Hip2Homeschool Unit Studies instead of making a Squidoo page on them. One last thing I want to include in this newsletter is that I will be putting up a poll on my blog asking you all what units you would like to see next, after Prince Caspian and Ancient Egypt. So keep a look out for that and put in your vote.

Hip2Homeschool Units Studies Update

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have not forgotten about the Prince Caspian Unit but have been really busy updating my other units for a special reason, which I will announce in the near future. I plan on finishing up with those by the beginning of next week and then hopefully get back to the Prince Caspian Unit. I have already typed in Days 6 - 10 and will do Days 11 - 15 hopefully next week.

Hip2Homeschool Unit Studies Update Newsletter

I want to say, first of all, I am sorry to those of you who have been waiting for my Prince Caspian Unit to be finished but life's happenings have kept me from staying on schedule working on it. I still intend to get it done but not on the schedule that I would have liked to have stuck with. I am going to try to get some work done on it this week. I have already done the first 5 days and will work on the next 10, getting it out sometime in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully it will be sooner.

I am also trying to transfer my website on its current domain to a new one on Blogger so that I can have my own domain name, hopefully getting more exposure. But I am not sure if I can transfer all of my husband's great artwork onto it. We will see how it goes.

We will soon be taking our summer break so I will have more opportunity to get some of the units out that I want to have done by the beginning of fall. It will be nice to have that breather and to get more work done.

Hip2Homeschool Unit Studies Update

Mozart and Monet will be the first great artist and great composer that I do in my series of Great Artists & Composers Units. Mozart won out by just one vote. Only one person voted. Monet won hands down by 2 or 3 votes. I will be working on these this summer to get them out for the next school year, 2008/2009.

I have been working hard on my Prince Caspian Unit and am almost finished with the fifth day of the study. Then I have 10 more days to go. I tried to get it finished by the time the movie came out but, with all that life throws at you sometimes, that hasn't been possible. I will try to get it done as soon as possible for those of you who are interested in purchasing this unit.

Hi Everyone,

My family and I have been on vacation for the past week so that is why I haven't posted in a while. I am back and look forward to getting back to work on my unit studies in progress. I am going to be laying down my unit study on Ancient Egypt for a while and will be concentrating on the Prince Caspian Literature Unit that I was planning to do afterwards. I decided to work on it instead since the movie is being released soon. I think that it would be a good study to do during this time. It is always fun to compare the book to the movie as well. I will be working on it this week and will let you know when it is finished and ready for sale.

This summer I will be working on a couple of units on the great composers and artists. Monet won out on the poll for the most wanted artist unit but there was a three way tie for the composer poll. I will be putting up a new poll for those 3 that were chosen and try to narrow it down to one. I will also be putting together units on animation, The Hiding Place (a literature unit) and pirates.

Right now I am currently working on the next unit that I will put out which is on Ancient Egypt. It is coming slowly but surely. This one will take me a little more time than the last few. This will be a 6 week study. Then, the next one in line is one on Prince Caspian, which is also coming out in theaters in May. I am hoping to get to it before then but we will have to see. I am currently writing one on The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. It is in the works, in the writing stages.

Poll Closed/ Advertising On New Educational Links Website

Well, polls are closed and the following are the results of each. Most of you who voted in the first poll said that you use the link list in the resource section in the front of my unit studies. So I will continue adding that feature for those of you who voted in favor of it. Second poll revealed that most of you don't care if I put the resource section in the front or back of my units. The second highest vote was in favor of having them in the front. No one voted to have them moved to the back. So I will continue to have my resource list in the front, with an added feature of a Table of Contents. Thank you to those of you who voted.

Polls Will Be Closing Soon - Please vote

I have 2 polls up on my blog right now and only have had 3 votes on each. I really want to make sure that I have as many opinions known about these issues as I possibly can to get an accurate reading of what people want in my unit studies, as far as URL list and other resource lists. I want to have the best product that I possibly can. So, if you haven't voted, please do. I even encourage those that don't use my units but use unit studies in their homeschooling to feel free to vote as well.

In a week or two, I will be offering a free mini-unit on my website about butterflies. Keep an eye out for that. I was thinking of offering it as a "Buy one, get one free" deal but I am thinking now that I will probably just offer it alone for free so that people who are interested in my units but want to see what one of my units looks like (and use it) before purchasing can do so. I will announce it on my blog as soon as I have that on my website.

2 New Polls on My Blog/Units Uploaded on Site

Hi Everyone,

I have put 2 new polls on my blog to figure out how homeschool moms feel about my unit study e-book format. The first one is on whether or not a separate URL list is needed in the resource section of my units or if the majority of my users just use the links that are listed in the daily lesson plans only. The second poll is to see whether my users, or anyone who purchases already made unit studies, prefer having the resource section of my units in the front of the e-book before the daily lesson plans (as it already is) or in the back of the e-book as more of an appendix.

I would appreciate any input that you have, so please go vote if you have a preference. I would like to keep things "as is" but I have heard from some that they would prefer that I put the resource section in the back and I have gotten differing points of view about whether or not to have a separate URL list. I am just curious as to what the majority of people think before I decide what to do. I am definitely planning on adding a Table of Contents to future units so that you can know the page number that each day's lessons start on for ease of use.

Rocks and Minerals Unit is Completed

I have finally put the finishing touches on my Rocks and Minerals Unit and it is ready for sale. I don't have it up on my site yet but will get my husband to do that this evening, along with putting up my Exploring the Deep Sea and Its Creatures Unit (finally). The cost of the unit study is $17.50 and a resource that will be needed for this study is the Rocks and Minerals Coloring Book by Dover Publications. I was unable to find any free coloring pages online for it. The cost of the coloring book is around $3 or$4.

The next unit that I am preparing to do, starting this week or next, is looking like Ancient Egypt. So far, it is winning out over the Dinosaur unit in the current poll on my blog.

New Poll, Please Vote/Update on Rocks & Minerals Unit

I have only had 2 people vote in my poll and would really love more input on this possible unit. This unit came from a request from my youngest daughter. She has wanted to do a unit on The Trumpet of the Swan since last year. I have put a unit together on it for her and thought that maybe some of you would be interested in it too. So if you would please go and vote in the poll I would greatly appreciate it. I don't want to go through all of the trouble of making it an e-book if no one wants it. I will definitely, however, be putting out a unit on the book, Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis, by request of a customer and friend. This will go perfectly with the movie of the same name coming out in May.

I have gotten the first week of the Rocks & Minerals unit done and am working on the 2nd week right now. This will be a 3 week study and will hopefully be done by this weekend or next week.

Poll Ends, New One Begins

Well, the recent poll on my blog has ended with the following results:

11 said that they preferred units geared towards older students being adapted to the younger ones. One lady voted by phone, so that makes 12 actually.

2 said that they preferred it the other way around.

1 said that it didn't matter to them.

I had one lady comment to me that she thought that my units were fine the way they are and that she felt that I have done a good job of making my units usable with the younger students as well as the older ones. I just want to make sure that my units fit all ages.

Thanks to those of you who participated in the poll.

I am getting ready to put up a new poll about a possible future unit topic, a book of literature. I want to see how much interest that there would be in it before I do it and put it up for sale. So please go and vote.

New Poll Up

Hello again!

One topic of conversation that I have been having with fellow unit study writers or users just recently is the topic of adjusting unit studies to fit the different ages and grades so that they can be used to teach younger and older grades together. So I came up with the new poll on my blog right now. One lady wrote and said that she preferred to adjust a unit study geared towards the older students to fit the younger students instead of visa versa. So I wanted to see how many other homeschool parents feel that way. I would love for you all to go and vote. Let me know what you prefer.

Also, I have been trying my hardest to get my Deep Sea unit out and on my website for sale. It seems like everything is hitting me right now (sickness, interruptions, and just the busyness of life), keeping me from putting the finishing touches on it. Exploring the Deep Sea & Its Creatures

Because of the busyness of life the past few days, I haven't been able to get this unit completed as I was hoping to. But today things are settling down and I am hoping to get the unit done by tonight or tomorrow. I have been having such fun putting this unit together. The deep sea is very interesting and amazing. I have finally added the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and my Easter Unit up on my website, under Literature and Holidays. These are ready for purchase. The link to my website is on the sidebar, on the right hand side of my blog.

I am currently putting together my Exploring the Deep Sea and Its Creatures Unit and finished the first week of that one yesterday. Hopefully I will have it done by next week, which is what I am aiming for. I will keep you posted on the progress that I am making on it and when it is up for sale as I go. This will be my first science unit with more yet to come. I am thinking of doing a unit on dinosaurs from the Christian perspective. I would love to hear from you and whether or not this would be a topic of interest. You can leave a comment below.

Easter Unit is Ready!

Another Review of My Units

This was sent in to me by Susan in VA, who is currently using my Japan Unit in her homeschool:

"Do you want to try a unit study but don't know where to begin? Perhaps you have used unit studies in the past but don't have the time to put it all together. You may have found that even with purchasing a pre-made unit study, they are just a guide and still require a lot of time and work to pull the unit together and to make daily lesson plans.

I have the solution for you! Heather's Hip2Homeschool Unit Studies. These are fantastic and unlike anything on the market parading as a pre-made unit study. Heather provides you with a book list (though you are free to chose other books not listed and you don't have to utilize them all), website listing, and most importantly, daily lesson plans. She has written out for each day what you should read about, what activities to do, and provides craft ideas for different days. Some of her units (the longer ones) have vocabulary included that you can utilize if you wish.

Her units range from 2 to 6 weeks in length, though there is usually an option of carrying the study a little longer if you would like. They are also very cost effective and allow you to explore varying topics with your children more in-depth than a textbook could provide.

My children and I are currently working on the Japan unit study and have learned so many new things, like proper etiquette for using chopsticks (yes, there are rules), how many islands make up the country, the influences China has had on Japan, that there are at least three different styles of writing, and so much more.

I HIGHLY recommend these unit studies. I wouldn't use anything else for this type of approach to homeschooling. Oh, and it can also be utilized by public school parents that wish to allow their child to delve deeper into a topic of interest to them.

BENEFITS of using unit studies: Unit studies allow me to teach both of my students the same material at the same time, so I do not have to buy two separate curricula. I pick up the books for the unit from my local public library which saves me additional money. I can pick topics that are interesting to the children and that I want them to study. For special needs children and tactile learners, unit studies provide a way to tailor programs to them and to allow for creativity and "doing", rather than just sitting and listening. And again, with Heather's Hip2Homeschool Unit Studies, the daily plans are already made out, so I can put my energies into other areas that need it more.

Half Way There With Easter Study & Where I Am Heading

I am half way through with the Easter Unit that I am working on. I have 5 more days of lesson plans to put in and then I will be done. Then it is on to Deep Sea and Its Creatures. The following unit will be a literature unit on The Trumpet of the Swan, at the request of my 8 year old who has been dying to do this book for the past few months. I also plan on doing the following units by the beginning or middle of May: Ancient Egypt, Sharks, Renaissance Painters ( a look at the Renaissance period through the eyes of the artists' art and lives), Plants, and possibly, Pirates. If I can fit in more, I will. Also, if there are any specific topics that you would like to see, let me know and I will take them into consideration. It is so much fun!

OK, so maybe I'm not the greatest at Haiku, but my children and I had a blast learning about Japan through Heather's unit study. Went out on a limb and bought a CD by KODO. Learning about music and watching the children draw what their favorite songs made them think about (Day 3) was my favorite part. My son enjoyed learning about the Samurai the most. My daughter liked it all best because, "It's just all so much fun!" Thanks for helping us have a really good time with schooling the past few weeks, Heather.

Charlie Unit is Done

Just a quick note, late on a Saturday night, letting those of you who are interested in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Unit that it is ready to sell. I will be adding it to my website in the next day or 2 and will be selling it for $17.50. It is a 4 week (or 20 day) unit study, including daily lesson plans (with reading assignments, activities and crafts), book list, website URL list, vocabulary and writing prompts.

Now it is on to the Easter Unit already in progress, followed by The Deep Sea and Its Creatures, which is in the works.

I have added a new feature to my unit study blog. You can now subscribe to this blog via email for updates on unit studies that are being worked on or ones that are completed and ready for purchase.

I am still working on the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, typing it in to the computer program that I use to make it into an e-book. I am almost finished. I hope to have it done in the next few days. I am also working on writing lesson plans for The Deep Sea & Its Creatures and have finished with the writing of the lesson plans for the Easter Unit. I will be typing them both in after the Charlie unit is completed.

New Hip2Homeschool Unit Study Website

Well, it is finally done, up and running. My husband finished putting together my website last night and here is the URL as promised in my last entry.

Do not be thrown off by the "bobzone.com". My husband and I had just decided that for the time being it would be good just to put up my site on his web domain until I can afford to get my own.

My Unit Study Price List

I have been working hard on my Charlie and the Chocolate Factory lately, after finishing up the unit on the Middle Ages. This is all ready to sell and I will be posting my website URL soon, hopefully by tomorrow. My husband has been working really hard on it and I am very excited about it.

Someone asked me the other day about my price lists so I decided that I would go ahead and post them here and now. Prices are based on the length of the unit study, as well as the fact that I include daily lesson plans.

2 to 3 week study - $15
3 to 4 week study - $17.50
5 to 6 week study - $20

As soon as my site is up and running I will post the link.

After Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I am planning on putting together units on The Deep Sea and Its Creatures and one on Easter.

Middle Ages Unit Near Completion

I have been hard at work trying to get my Middle Ages unit done and am almost there. It should be done by this evening or tomorrow. Right now, I am finishing up on formatting and making it into a pdf file e-book. I am really excited about it.

My artist husband (you can click on his site URL under my favorite links, thebobzone.com) is hard at work putting together my website and I will write an entry in this blog as soon as it is done. I will include the link in the entry mentioned above.

Now I am hard at work writing out my unit for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This will be followed by a unit on Deep Sea Creatures. I am enjoying every minute of it.

Well, that is what is going on for now. I will write future updates as units are completed or getting underway. I would still love to hear from anyone with future unit ideas that you would like to see.

2 Units Ready to Sell

I have been working hard on the Middle Ages unit study and will be done with it by the end of the week, beginning of next week. Japan Unit Is Done; Middle Ages is in Process

I have now completed the unit study on Japan that I have been working on this past Christmas break. It is all ready to see when I get my business up and running. I am now in the process of typing out my Middle Ages unit and should be done with it in the next week or 2. I figured that when I have 2 under my belt, then I will start a website and start selling. I have many more that I have written out (in the planning stage) and am ready to start typing in as soon as I am done with the Middle Ages. The following ones are in the planning stage: Ancient Egypt (5 to 6 week study), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2 to 3 week study), The Iditarod (2 week), Easter (2 week), and Rocks and Minerals (1 to 2 week).

Unit Studies

Hello All,

This blog is going to be used for advertising my unit studies that are currently underway. This is a new venture for me and one that I hope will be a success.

I want to thank my friend Andra and the other women in my homeschool park group for encouraging me to do this in the first place. Thanks Ladies!

I will be letting you all know when I have my unit studies up and running for sale, including the price for each one.

I am also open to topic ideas that anyone (that home-schools with unit studies and is interested in purchasing) has for future units. I am always open to new ideas.
